About
Rebecca Wells Phillips is an author in Asheville, North Carolina, who published her first book, Hating Self by Boo Black, in November 2023; her second book, Loving Self by Boo Black in April 2024; and Butterfly Blossoms by Rachel Bleu on September 25, 2024, the day before Hurricane Helene devastated her state.
Hating Self by Boo Black discusses the author’s childhood trauma of growing up in a predominantly white town in Tennessee. By writing her painful memories on paper, Rebecca has been able to let go of her past and help others discover their God-given purpose.
Loving Self by Boo Black, presented in diary format, focuses on the importance of self-love and self-care. As with Hating Self, the author has another self-harm event, which is a major turning point in helping her overcome her feelings of inadequacy.
Butterfly Blossoms by Rachel Bleu is an adult fiction novel illustrating how the protagonist, Sally, discovers she is a lesbian. Still, her strict religious upbringing is complicating her desire to live authentically. To her surprise, Sally receives spiritual guidance from a close friend and a deceased family member.
On August 4, 2025, Rebecca published Hurricane Helene: Resiliency After the Storm, Part One, which captured survivor stories following Hurricane Helene's destruction in Western North Carolina. The Hurricane Helene book evolved from what she faced during and before the storm’s destruction. It discusses the record-breaking floods, innumerable mudslides, and the hundreds of fallen trees that killed people in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida.
Current projects include Lift Our Voice: Abuse Survivors Speak Their Truth and Dragonfly Passion by Rachel Bleu. You can visit her website at www.rebeccawellsphillips for additional information about this influential author.

What inspired you to start writing?
Growing up in a predominantly white town in Tennessee, I felt completely out of place and insignificant until I was allowed to take an Advanced Placement class in high school for English Literature. I absolutely fell in love with Shakespeare and poetry, and realized that I had a gift for the written word.

Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
I published Hurricane Helene Resiliency After the Storm Part One in August of 2025, which captures true-life stories of resiliency, loss, and the importance of community. Now, I'm working on Lift Our Voice: Abuse Survivors Speak Their Truth, where we're turning our pain into purpose by sharing it with others in hopes of helping someone. I'm also working on the follow-up to Butterfly Blossoms, Dragonfly Passion by Rachel Bleu.
