Confessions of a Rock 'n' Roll Name-Dropper: My Life Leading Up to John Lennon's Last Interview
About
Confessions of a Rock 'n' Roll Name-Dropper: My Life Leading Up to John Lennon's Last Interview is my memoir, the story of my rock radio-related early life and career wrapped around John Lennon’s final interview which I co-conducted for RKO Radio at the Dakota in New York back on December 8, 1980 mere hours before he was shot and killed. I also wrote and co-produced the incredibly well-received 3 hour RKO special that aired a mere 6 days after John’s assassination: John Lennon - The Man, The Memory, as well as the 14 hour RKO Presents The Beatles - the longest Fab Four radio special ever created for the U.S.! It was syndicated shortly afterwards to be played around the world including the UK, and we expanded it to 17 hours and changed the title to the original one I’d come up with - The Beatles From Liverpool to Legend!
This year (2025) we’re approaching the 45th anniversary of Lennon's passing, which I still refer to as both the best and WORST day of my life…especially since right after our interview I was accosted, followed and bugged by the creep who turned out to be John Lennon’s killer - I’ve felt guilty for not reporting him to the Dakota security department or the police for the last nearly 45 years! I NEVER say or print his name!
I definitely wrote my book to attract tons of readers and create awareness of my rock radio related existence, which has always been important to me since as a toddler, I began living with a transistor radio in my ears to stay away from my dysfunctional family! I tell my readers all about being a teenage runaway thanks to my violent, unfortunate family upbringing, as well as how Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll sent me up the road not only to John Lennon’s last day on the planet, but also to tons of other incredible interviews I conducted - everyone from Paul and Linda McCartney and Wings in London back in June 1979 to George Harrison, George Martin, Little Richard Penniman, The Ramones, Talking Heads, Mick Jagger, David Bowie, etc etc - and they're nearly all featured, described and quoted in my book!
My book’s website - https://www.confessionsofarocknrollnamedropper.com) features many of the podcast episodes I've been interviwed on, and also the TV and radio shows as well as the major Alan G. Parker British feature film documentary about John Lennon’s last years called Borrowed Time ! PLUS my website features lots of book reviews !
