I Want To Be A Dolphin - Terrilyn S. Alexander

  • What inspired you to start writing?
Actually, it was who. My mother was my first inspiration, she instilled me and my siblings the importance of reading and writing at an early age. I also use to read story’s I had written to my family when I was a child. The inspiration for my story came after watching a documentary about dolphins on tv with my 8 year- old son Ausar, who is now 16. At that time and just as it states in the book, when the program ended he said to me “mom I want to be a dolphin” I told him he could not be a dolphin but he insisted that he wanted to be one. And while cooking, the story came to life. It was so vivid I stopped what I was doing to write it down. Although my husband Leon did not inspire me to write my story, he was a great inspiration in helping my story come to life. After being tucked away for many years I took the manuscript out and read it to him and afterwards he said “Terri you should get your story published” and we did.
