Inside the Mind - Anjali Paul

  • What inspired you to start writing?
I wanted to be a writer ever since I could remember. I think I chose this path as a young girl because I could not communicate clearly, and I wanted to be understood. Learning the art and craft of writing helped me to communicate with clarity.
  • Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is non-fiction. It is called Quiet Power and Subtle Influence: The Art of Leading with Emotional Intelligence. I wrote it in a burst of inspiration. It delves deeply into how leaders communicate to establish and maintain their authority.
  • How do you create your characters?
I create characters by observing people in real life and shaping fictional characters so that they have that psychological realism.
  • What does your typical writing day look like?
All day! I cannot think about anything else when I am writing.
  • What has been the most rewarding part of being an indie author?
I have full creative control over what I write.
  • What’s one challenge you’ve faced in your writing journey?
My first novel was published by a small publisher, who did not even bother to edit it. It took me a year to get my copyright back from him. Now, I have the control to make sure my books are edited and proofread before publication. As I have worked as an editor and proof-reader for many years, I can ensure that my work is polished to a high standard.
  • Do you have any favorite writing tools or apps?
I love computers! When I first started writing, I had to type out my manuscripts on a typewriter, and re-type a whole page every time I made a mistake! Writing using a computer makes the process of writing so sweet and easy.
  • What advice would you give to new or aspiring indie authors?
Believe in yourself, whatever anyone else says.
  • How do you handle book promotion as an indie author?
I do what I can, like posting my work on sites such as this one.
  • What’s next for you? Are you working on a new book?
I would like to find the time to do more writing!
