What inspired you to start writing?
My life began in a way that many would describe as traditional. I entered the banking industry at an international bank located in Trinidad, rising from an entry-level clerk to Commercial Credit Manager. My visionary leadership helped transform rural communities into thriving towns, contributing to the economic development of Trinidad and Tobago. It was in this phase of my career that I built the foundation for my success: a deep understanding of community-building, strategic thinking, and leadership. After I retired from banking, I moved into Insurance and qualified for the Million Dollar Round Table six times.
Yet, it was an unexpected life event that radically altered the course of my life. Diagnosed with cancer, I faced a life-threatening challenge that many could not survive. However, my resilience became the hallmark of my character. After winning my battle with cancer, I wrote a memoir, I Am Cancer Free, which not only became a bestseller but also garnered international acclaim. This book marked the beginning of my literary career, one that would ultimately see me publish 67 books, 67 audiobooks, and three screenplays, spanning a variety of genres, from memoirs to self-help, romance, mystery, science fiction, Christian books, children's books, and poetry.

Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
My 67th book is CHRISTMAS MESSAGES, faith-based and inspiring poetry, to remind us of the reason for Christmas. The book is intended to remind readers that Christmas is not simply a season, but a story, the story of God's greatest gift, His Son, given out of pure love for humanity.
-
How do you create your characters?
I create characters based on the plot of my book. A believable character grows and changes as my story evolves. They are just like real people, who adapt and respond to the story's events and overcome their obstacles.

What does your typical writing day look like?
I write from 8.00 am to 12.00 noon. I rest after lunch and watch movies or go out with my sisters. At night, I write from 8.00 pm to 10.00 pm.I have a good night's rest.

What has been the most rewarding part of being an indie author?
The most rewarding part of being an indie author is having complete creative freedom and control over my work. The many awards and positive reviews keep me going and writing more. My screenplay for ZEEKA AND THE ZOMBIES II was a finalist in the 13Horror.com Film & Screenplay Contest 2025. Many of my books have obtained five-star reviews from Readers' Favorite International and won awards in International contests.

What’s one challenge you’ve faced in your writing journey?
When I first started writing, I questioned my abilities, feared criticism, and worried that my work was not good enough. I soon overcame that when I received positive responses about my writing. I also received a few negative reviews, but soon realised that not every reader would like my style of writing.
-
Do you have any favorite writing tools or apps?
I write best on my computer, and I have Grammarly installed. Grammarly is not always right, but it is useful.
-
What advice would you give to new or aspiring indie authors?
I have written three books on How to Write for Success and Publishing Tips. I wrote those especially for new and aspiring authors. All my books and audiobooks are on Amazon and are easily available.
-
How do you handle book promotion as an indie author?
I have built a strong online presence with a website and social media. I engage readers through my three blogs, my Facebook groups, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and use a combination of online ads, book giveaways, and video trailers.
