Inside the Mind - Carla D E Godfrey

  • What inspired you to start writing?
Jane Austen! I loved reading her when I was growing up; my stories used to be four pages long, first they involved my family and then I started creating characters.
  • Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
To be absolutely honest - I haven't written it yet! But I will say it's an intense office romance - I'll be releasing a snippet, a sort of prologue, in December along with my latest newsletter.
  • How do you create your characters?
I always try to create strong, down to earth, meaningful characters because I like to write stories that have a meaning to them in one way or another, they're not just flimsy romances.
  • What does your typical writing day look like?
I normally write until I've had enough so that normally takes me from late morning to early-late afternoon, I remember that first and foremost it's a hobby - so I try to take a "leisure time" approach.
  • What has been the most rewarding part of being an indie author?
Seeing my books sell and getting good ratings! It's so satisfying especially when you've had to promote your book yourself without professional help.
  • What’s one challenge you’ve faced in your writing journey?
Finding a way to publish it! There's a lot of vanity publishing options out there - I've been there once before and got burnt quite badly, but free publishing IS out there, and it's worth it - even though you do have to do all the promotion yourself!
  • Do you have any favorite writing tools or apps?
Well...they can be a bit of a gimmick can't they? But I've recently signed up to Plot Factory Studios I like the layout and the space for people to plan their stories.
  • What advice would you give to new or aspiring indie authors?
Just write. But write what you love; it should be a hobby not a chore, and you'll need all the enthusiasm you can get - because it can be hard work!
  • How do you handle book promotion as an indie author?
I've taken a somewhat new, laid back approach to promoting now as one unflattering review pointed out I was far too eager! It's a hobby, not a life line, so I now just make people aware what's available and they're free to have a look; what they do next is up to them!
  • What’s next for you? Are you working on a new book?
Well...as I've said, I'll be releasing a mini prologue in December called The Touch, Grip will then follow in 2026.
