Inside the Mind - Carla L Ibanzo

  • What inspired you to start writing?
Well, I've been writing from teenage years. I loved using my imagination to craft interesting stories and characters. But about two years ago, a dear friend of mine encouraged me to try publishing.
  • Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is a poetry book called Hanaki. It's a beautiful book of poetry meaning flower tree. In it the nuances of love, the healing power of trees and the fire to chase one's dreams are eloquently expressed. The poems are moving, and you'll experience a gamut of emotions and be comforted in knowing that we all share similar fears, questions and doubts.
  • How do you create your characters?
I write mainly poetry, but sometimes I use characters in writing. I usually create a name and sit with it and then the name usually convey a persona that dictates their personality and characteristics.
  • What does your typical writing day look like?
I have no special time to write, so it varies. My writing time, venue and style would depend on wherever and whenever inspiration comes. That could be in the classroom, park, cafe, mall, train etc.
  • What has been the most rewarding part of being an indie author?
For me, it's holding the physical book in hand and seeing the actual creation bowls me over everytime. There's no feeling like it!
  • What’s one challenge you’ve faced in your writing journey?
One of my greatest challenge is finding honest and trust worthy and reliable people to work with. It's really quite surprising and scary (laughs). Another challenge is learning to self-promote. As an introvert it's a very cringe process for me but I know that it's necessary.
  • Do you have any favorite writing tools or apps?
Of course! Nothing like the voice app on my phone to record lines ad hoc. I'm sure all writers can relate to recording inspo as it comes.
  • What advice would you give to new or aspiring indie authors?
It's cliche but true. Just keep going in spite of and despite of everything! And never give up!
  • How do you handle book promotion as an indie author?
I really heavily on word of mouth and of course social media.
  • What’s next for you? Are you working on a new book?
Yes, and without giving too much away, I have other books in the works. So follow my social media accounts to keep posted of my newest publications.
