Inside the Mind - G.R. Page

  • Who are your favorite writers?
Frewin Jones and C.S. Lewis has probably influenced me the most in my writing. One of my writing motivations is to be able to write a fantastical series like these writers.
  • Where do you get your ideas?
For some reason, several of my ideas have literally come to me through my dreams. My first book, Deathly in Love, was a dream so fresh that came to me with several ideas that are in my first chapter.
  • What advice do you have for new writers?
A lot of people and other writers always say "write what you know.” I will add to that with the quote: “write what you love.” If it’s what you love, what you’re passionate about, it will be easier to write and your passion can draw readers to you.
  • Did you have any difficulty during your writing process? How did you overcome it?
I definitely have had some lulls. Life happens, and it sometimes just gets away from me. Depending on how much time at work I was on the computer, it sometimes made it difficult to come home and get back on the computer. It really helped to set aside some time to write: time to generate ideas, time for plot enhancing etc.
  • If you didn’t write romance and adventure, what other genre(s) interest you and why?
Yes, I do love romance and adventure. It’s hard not to write them and think about things going in these directions. However, one of my works in progress (WIP) is an Irish mystery. It will still have adventure in it, but I’m going to try not to put any romance in it - not only to pass the Bechdel test but to also really focus on different methods for character developments.
  • What is your writing process?
Depending on what I know I want to put into my book(s), I am a very lateral, straightforward writer. I like to write from start to finish. If I write something that I want in the middle of a book, I figure out how my characters get to that point and write from the beginning to get to my original writing.
  • What books do you currently have out? What are you currently working on?
For the past several years, I have been working on The Andoran Archives. I currently have two out of three books out in the series: Deathly in Love and A Deadly Adventure. I am currently working on the third, Bigger than Death. It is a series following the de Ghant family and their lives in Andora. I hope to also have a prequel to this series with one of the de Ghant ancestors as the main character. I definitely have a lot of WIPs and several ideas flooded in my Google Drive Folder that I'll hopefully touch in the next few years.
  • What is your favorite childhood book?
The first book that I ever read that spurned my love of reading and writing is Mandy by Julie Andrews. It is about an orphan girl that climbs over a wall and finds her own little cottage.
