Inside the Mind - Jonathan Davis

  • What inspired you to start writing?
I have an overactive imagination, it has caused me issues in the past with my mental health. Writing allows me to focus it into something productive and fun
  • Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
The last book I published was a sequel to my debut novel, it’s a whodunnit murder mystery, where the villain is hiding in plain sight and it lets the reader figure it out as they go through it
  • How do you create your characters?
Some of them are based on real people, others are pure imagination but based on people I know and others are just parts of my personality amplified for the story
  • What does your typical writing day look like?
Currently it’s about an hour of writing on my lunch break and a little bit at night due to family and work commitments
  • What has been the most rewarding part of being an indie author?
Getting to write with my 4 year old daughter, she wanted to read my published books but they are definitely not for her so I suggested we write one together and so it’s made it very fun now
  • What’s one challenge you’ve faced in your writing journey?
Finding the time to sit down and write is the hardest part for me, closely followed by finding money and time to spend publicising my work
  • Do you have any favorite writing tools or apps?
I tend to use word for writing and amazon kdp or draft2digital to publish them
  • What advice would you give to new or aspiring indie authors?
Just write, don’t worry about perfection, you can always perfect something but never nothing
  • How do you handle book promotion as an indie author?
I try different things on instagram and other social media but it’s difficult for me to do it having never done it before
  • What’s next for you? Are you working on a new book?
I’m currently working on a few different books, a sequel in my mystery series and a kids book with my daughter about our dog
