What inspired you to start writing?
Growing up as a gay man in the 1970’s and 80’s was a difficult experience. At that time it was still illegal and there was no gay marriage or even Pride. I felt isolated and thought there may be something wrong with me. The way I find to help myself was to write and draw my feelings in a book I kept hidden from others, a kind of diary I guess.
-
Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
My book is made up of lots of the things I wrote in my “diary” about being gay, my feelings, falling in and out of love and the struggle to come to terms with who I really am.
-
What has been the most rewarding part of being an indie author?
It has been a wonderful experience seeing the things I wrote and the drawings I made being put into a book after all these years. It may not become a “bestseller” or even sell that many, but it’s a great feeling to know that I can share all this with others.
-
What advice would you give to new or aspiring indie authors?
Just go for it ! Do it for yourself, not for others or for fame and profit.
-
How do you handle book promotion as an indie author?
I struggle to promote my book because most publishers want large fees. I try to share on a Facebook page and other similar places but not really to much avail.
-
What’s next for you? Are you working on a new book?
The book I have already published is my “baby” and I don’t really have plans to publish anything else…..but you never know !
