Inside the Mind - Andrew G. Berger

Andrew G. Berger
  • What inspired you to start writing?
THE SUPERFLARE is my latest book, published also in German as DER SONNENSTURM. The initial idea was to consider what would actually happen if all digital devices stopped working overnight. We are becoming more and more dependent on AI and countless digital helpers – smartphones, navigation devices, laptops, iPads, tablets, smart TVs, smartwatches, Alexa, Siri, Cortana, smart homes, Google, the Internet, etc. But what if all those helpers suddenly stopped working? A worldwide EMP, triggered by a gigantic solar storm, could do the trick. Based on this idea, I started to design possible scenarios that branched out and condensed more and more during the writing process.
  • Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
The fear of machines, robots, and artificial intelligence has been as old as humanity’s longing to simplify their lives, enhance their capabilities, or even – as “homo deus” – create a new life form: Artificial Intelligence. Professor Yuval Noah Harari describes this process and its potential consequences in his book “Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow.” His concern is that artificial intelligence might not make humans all-powerful but rather render them obsolete. When I began writing THE SUPERFLARE several years ago, these thoughts were on my mind as I developed the character of TRON, an artificial super-intelligence that plays a central role in my novel.

  • What inspired you to start writing?
I was a pastor for 15 years which required a lot of creative techniques to tell the story of Jesus in ways that would inspire and captivate a large audience. After retiring from that I wanted to take those skill and turn them to creative story telling for a whole new audience in a genre I am fascinated about.
  • Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
My book is my first attempt at short stories and self publishing. It really just came from a brainstorming idea from some AI art i made.

  • What inspired you to start writing?
I read book after book and none of them had anything like the story that was in my head. So, one day I decided the only way I was going to read that book, was if I wrote it.
  • Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is set in Far North Queensland. It is a case of opposites attract, he's Nephilim and she's a Druid Human. He comes from a line of Fey 'royalty'. She comes from a line of outback bogans. He is invited to her home for the weekend to meet her family leading to a series of comical situations. In the space of only a few days, Doran and Zoe must deal with not only her cantankerous father and interesting family dynamics, but also the wild tropical weather. It is an equally wild ride of laugh out load fun and steamy romance....until one of their lives is on the line!

  • What inspired you to start writing?
It's corny, but it was a dream. Sad, I know, but true. I woke up so captured by the story, wondering what would have happened if I'd stayed asleep and how had I got there? I ended up writing it down.
  • Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
The last book I wrote was set in a hospital. A Piece of my Heart is a story about a woman in hospital and a visitor, meeting every day in the hospital cafe.

  • What inspired you to start writing?
I’ve always been fascinated by science and technology and the intense emotions stirred by love stories. Hence, I started wondering, “How powerful can love be?” I wanted to explore the specific case of alien romance, unrequited love, impossible love, and fatal attraction within the science fiction background. Once aliens meet humans, their different origins can play a decisive part in a unique plot that could not possibly happen had the lovers been only humans. The main characters in the book are unique to the story and are inspired by it. I created my protagonist to be smart, beautiful and fiercely independent, stirring strong emotions from humans and aliens alike and creating a love triangle from which true, all-powerful love finally triumphs.
  • What does your typical writing day look like?
I find great joy in writing from the comfort of my home office, where a cosy ambience inspires creativity. The walls are lined with my favourite books and astronomy pictures taken during my past journeys. As I write, I immerse myself in the inspiring melodies of my carefully selected playlists, which fill the room with a sense of wonder. This perfect environment allows my thoughts to flow freely, making the writing process a truly fulfilling experience.

  • What inspired you to start writing?
Making up a story, on the hoof, to entertain 4/5 children sheltering in our beach tent during a shower of rain
  • Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
it began as an entry to a competition: write a story in 100 words. It did not figure in the results but i had the kernel for a story I had to flesh out and the thought of the protagonist talking to an 'imaginary' third person had crossed my mind for a story several months prior.

Inside the Mind - Seema Goyal

  • What inspired you to start writing?
The inspiration came from a disconnect I observed in my policy and education work — where education, ESG commitments, and workforce development were advancing in parallel, but rarely converging. I wanted to build a framework that not only diagnoses this fragmentation but offers a way to reimagine these domains as mutually reinforcing. The series is both a critique and a blueprint — to turn learners into system shapers, not just job seekers or knowledge absorbers.
  • Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
We don’t just need better systems — we need system shapers. Global Goals for Societal Transformation is not just a call for reform. It’s an invitation to rethink how we prepare people — especially young people — to lead with values, to navigate complexity, and to design futures worth living in. I want readers to see that education, sustainability, and ethical leadership are not separate silos. When we align them, we create the conditions for real transformation — not just in institutions, but in mindsets, policies, and possibilities. Whether you’re a policymaker, educator, student, or sustainability professional, my hope is that this book gives you a clearer map and a deeper sense of agency in shaping the systems around you.

  • What inspired you to start writing?
I loved the sports books by author Matt Christopher. I read many of them when I was a child, and it was those exciting books that inspired me to be a writer.
  • Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
The Almighty Accused is a stark drama that follows the efforts of 13-year-old Nolan Mitchell to put God on trial after his sister is murdered during a school shooting. After a shaky start and opposition by school officials and local residents, the trial gets underway. However, the project takes its toll on Nolan as he is forced to reexamine his own faith and beliefs.

  • What inspired you to start writing?
In fifth grade we were studying myths and legends. Our teacher, Mr. Robinson, challenged us to come up with our own myth or legend. He was so impressed with mine he read it to the class. I was hooked.
  • Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest two, one published, one not have a common thread running through them despite the fact that one is fiction and the other is nonfiction. We both illustrate the injustices done to indigenous people and the anger that inspires. The fiction Worst Case Scenario: Election Night is out, Leonard Comes Home is looking for a caring agent and publisher.

Inside the Mind - Fred Oliver

Fred Oliver
  • Why did you write Dormant Angels?
“I always had in my mind that I wanted to leave at least one book that would be part of my background and my life, something to be remembered by, maybe. Not just for myself because this book has a lot of spiritual inspiration as you go through it. I put a lot into this book. Seven days of the week, five, six, or more hours every single day just to get it done.”
  • But why write such a thought-provoking story?
“Life is full of controversy. Religious and political beliefs have always divided mankind. The Catholic Church, like all human institutions, has changed through time. And like all human institutions, the church has never been perfect, but today, what matters is the message of unity and brotherhood that it is putting forward. No matter what religion that you are or who you profess to be, the most important thing should be to get along with each other and to respect and love each other.”
